The music that I create is a constant attempt to interpret the ideas in my mind an make them audible. I like to use sounds from a diverse range of sources; from completely synthetic to acoustic and organic instruments. On many of my songs I will work almost exclusively in synthesis but use strings or plucked instruments as an acoustic counterpoint. I love the sounds of various pianos, violins and various classical instruments mixes with saw waves. The harmonics that this can create intrigues me.
One of the elements that I like the most about creating this kind of music is the opportunity to experiment and manipulate frequencies. To be able to dial in a sound then find different ways to tweak and bend the timbre using filters and effects.
My favorite sounds are pulsing synth leads where the sounds move by themselves, growing and evolving with different sonic elements inside the sound changing, detuning and morphing with different textures and spaces explored throughout. My first real experience with this synthesis modeling came from using the Access Virus several years ago. I had worked with LFO’s and modulation on my Korg Karma but with less accessibility and ease of manipulation. With my transition to soft-synths, I have been able to explore this in greater depth with Reason’s Thor, Maelström and Subtractor synthesizers. With the huge mixing and modulation capabilities in Reason, I have been able to make sounds that can be played without a keyboard, then run themselves, randomly, but within limits. It can be fascinating what sounds can be made.
